The apostle Paul is urging us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called (Ephesians 4:1). The first instruction for us to walk worthy of our glorious identity and calling is that we be unified in Christ, built on proper Christian attitudes (4:1-3) and the seven absolute truths (4:4-6). Christ conquered sin and death and distributed gifts so that we would grow together into Christ. Now Paul turns his attention to the second instruction for us to walk worthy of the calling. The command is this: “Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do” (Ephesians 4:17).
